The State Islamic University (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang has once again been entrusted as one of the host institutions for the Language and Academic Preparation Program (LAPP), a preparatory initiative for scholarship awardees from the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenag RI). The program is designed to prepare recipients for their studies abroad, both in Western and Middle Eastern countries.
The national opening ceremony of the 2025 LAPP took place on Monday (13/10), organized by the Center for Financing of Religious Education and Religious Education (Puspenma) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The event was officially opened by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Prof. Dr. Kamaruddin Amin, and was held simultaneously across five partner universities — UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, UIN Alauddin Makassar, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, and UIN Walisongo Semarang.
Following the national ceremony, participants joined an orientation session led by the Head of Puspenma, Dr. Ruchman Basori, who highlighted the strategic importance of the program.
“This activity is crucial in preparing awardees before they depart. Their communication and academic competencies will be essential for adapting and excelling in the international academic environment,” said Dr. Ruchman.

At UIN Malang, the internal opening was attended by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Basri, Ph.D., and the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Development, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Hamid. Both expressed appreciation for the continued trust given to UIN Malang as one of the program’s main partners.
“We fully support the Ministry’s commitment to developing high-quality human resources through the LAPP program. UIN Malang is dedicated to providing the best possible support to participants, especially in strengthening academic writing and critical thinking skills as key tools for future study abroad,” said Prof Basri.
He added that UIN Malang’s LAPP focuses on developing critical, systematic, and reflective thinking, ensuring that awardees are well-prepared to meet the academic challenges of international universities.
Running from October 13 to December 13, 2025, the two-month program provides intensive training in foreign language proficiency, academic writing, and introduction to international academic culture. Through this program, UIN Malang not only serves as an implementing institution but also as a strategic partner of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in preparing globally competitive, intellectually capable, and Islamically grounded young Indonesians — ready to represent the nation on the world stage.
